The Audacity is a new group of local folks planning creative action together to resist fascism, bigotry, and violence in the second age of Trump.
Join us as we meet on Saturday, February 1 from 1-3 pm in the Rockland Public Library Common Room.
We create working groups to plan creative actions on the open principle that if enough people commit to a group and it fits within our mission, it’s on. So bring your ideas and your gumption! In our last meeting in January, four working groups met and planned.
Public Protest Singing Group. The group focused on intentions to combine new and old songs to sing (both at protests and at stand-alone events), and will be announcing a date to meet and rehearse songs. The group has already amassed a catalog of more than 30 songs and 5 reference resistance songbooks. Here’s a group to join for quick, noticeable, public action.
Drama and Puppetry. The group decided to focus for the time being on developing quick, simple, guerilla theater/street theater elements and getting videography to share via social media and reaching out to the press to try to get local news coverage. It’s early days yet , but this group is looking for members.
Button/Bumper Sticker/Swag Making. The group produced 100 buttons using union-made supplies and a button-making machine, then distributed them at the January 18 People’s March in Portland (10:30 AM, Monument Square) to the delight of those assembled. 100 messages of resistance are currently moving around Southern Maine.
Local Government. The group focused on:
Obtaining information about important meetings of local political bodies (school boards, town boards, party meetings, candidate forums),
Disseminating that information through The Audacity meetings and the website at audacitycat.org, and
Encouraging candidates to run for local office
Don’t see a working group for a creative resistance action that you had in mind? Come on down to the Rockland Public Library Common Room on February 1 at 1 pm, ask who’s in with you, and get that group going!
All folks seeing to creatively resist the wave of fascism, bigotry and violence cresting over America are welcome.
