Petition for a Public Town Hall with Congressional Representatives in Knox County, Maine
We, the undersigned, are making a simple and straightforward call to each of our three representatives — Representative Chellie Pingree, Senator Angus King, and Senator Susan Collins — to each meet with us in person in a public town hall in Knox County Maine, during which all in attendance will have the opportunity to enter the line to ask a question of their member of Congress, honoring the right guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that the people may peaceably assemble to seek redress of grievances from government\’s representatives. When this petition reaches 1,000 signatures, we will send the petition to our congressional representatives. We expect a prompt response — Rep. Pingree and Senators King and Collins work for us.
This petition is sponsored by The Audacity, an independent, locally-organized grassroots group of Mainers who craft creative action together against the authoritarianism, bigotry, and corruption of these times and in defense of the American system of government organized around democracy, diversity, equity, and inclusion, as guaranteed by the United States Constitution. Protest Song Lyrics
-
Chorus:
You gotta put one foot in front of the other
and lead with love
Put one foot in front of the other
and lead with love
(x2)
Don’t give up hope!
You’re not alone
Don’t you give up
Keep movin’ on
Chorus
Lift up your eyes
Don’t you despair
Look up ahead
The path is there
Chorus
I know you’re scaredWell I’m scared too
But look at me
Right next to you
Chorus
-
No one is getting left behind this time.
No one is getting left behind.
No one it getting left behind this time.
We get there together or we never get there at all.
We get there together or we never get there at all.
We get there together or we never get there at all.

(to the Tune of “I Won’t Grow Up” from Peter Pan)
(Choral Response in Parentheses)
I won’t give up (I won’t give up)
I will never budge an inch (I will never budge an inch)
For a wannabe dictator (For a wannabe dictator)
And a constipated grinch (And a constipated grinch)
If we gave up then we would see
The death of American democracy
I’ll never give up, never give up, never give up… not me!
I won't give up (I won’t give up)
I don't want to be a tool (I don’t want to be a tool)
Of a filthy rotten scoundrel (Of a filthy rotten scoundrel)
And his money grubbing ghouls (And his money grubbing ghouls)
You deal with him and in the end,
You’ll sacrifice your values and betray a friend
So I’ll never give up, never give up, never give up…
Not me, not me, not me, not me, not me, NOT ME!
-
Oh, if you want democracy
All you have to do
Is go ask the President
And he will give it to you.
Yes, he will give it to you my friend
he will give it to you.
You can be free, just wait and see.
Oh, he will give it to you.
Oh, put it on the ground
Spread it all around
Dig it with a hoe
It will make your flowers grow!

Chords: G C D G
How many roads must a man walk down Before you call him a man? How many seas must a white dove sail Before she sleeps in the sand? Yes, and how many times must the cannonballs fly Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many years must a mountain exist Before it is washed to the sea? And how many years can some people exist Before they're allowed to be free? Yes, and how many times can a man turn his head And pretend that he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind
Yes, and how many times must a man look up Before he can see the sky? And how many ears must one man have Before he can hear people cry? Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind The answer is blowin' in the wind

We are a gentle, angry people
and we are singing, singing for our lives
We are a justice-seeking people
and we are singing, singing for our lives
We are young and old together
and we are singing, singing for our lives
We are a land of many colors
and we are singing, singing for our lives
We are gay and straight together
and we are singing, singing for our lives
We are a gentle, loving people
and we are singing, singing for our lives -
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you is worth savin'
And you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin'
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is rapidly agin'
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is rapidly fadin'
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin' -
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island,
From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters;
This land was made for you and me.As I was walking that ribbon of highway
I saw above me that endless skyway;
I saw below me that golden valley;
This land was made for you and me.I've roamed and rambled and I followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts;
And all around me a voice was sounding;
This land was made for you and me.When the sun came shining, and I was strolling,
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling,
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting:
This land was made for you and me.As I went walking I saw a sign there,
And on the sign it said "No Trespassing."
But on the other side it didn't say nothing.
That side was made for you and me.In the shadow of the steeple I saw my people,
By the relief office I seen my people;
As they stood there hungry, I stood there asking
Is this land made for you and me?Nobody living can ever stop me,
As I go walking that freedom highway;
Nobody living can ever make me turn back
This land was made for you and me.This land is your land, this land is my land
From California to the New York island,
From the redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters;
This land was made for you and me. -
