MASS POST-ELECTION MEETING, Sat Nov 7, 10 AM, 345 Broadway in Rockland (park at MacDougal if able)
We thought it would take days or weeks to find out about control of Congress, but wow, we’re so glad to be wrong. Across the country and for offices high and low, MAGA candidates lost and alternative candidates won by massive margins. With huge turnout, the repudiation of Trumpism is undeniable.
This is an incredibly heartening election for the politicians it repudiates, but history shouts that elections don’t always lead to policy change. The Audacity is a creative activist group organized in opposition to authoritarianism, bigotry, and corruption and in support of inclusive democracy, equity, and freedom. Victory on these fronts is not assured as the machinery of fascism grinds on.
We’ve all got questions this morning. What happens next? Will Donald Trump and his MAGA allies pull some slick tricks to undermine the results of this election and preserve their illegitimate hold on power? Will Congress and the state legislatures address injustices, investigate corruption, and build a better nation through policy or will they squander their chance to make change? What actions will we take in our little corner of Maine to help shape answers to these questions?
